Jason grew up in the Smoky Mountain town of Sylva, North Carolina where summer’s found him earning spending money by cutting neighborhood lawns. He expanded his range through the use of the trunk of his mom’s car which served as his equipment conveyance, and promptly learned the value of good gear and proper transport. A junior year high school instructor noted Jason’s wide eyed wonder of nature, and through a number of learning excursions, planted the horticulture seed in his mind and it thrived. From the tender age of 17, Jason had a plan for his future.
His next stop was North Carolina State University where, with the help of a horticulture scholarship, earned a Science Degree in Turf Grass Management alongside a minor in business. After graduation, Jason turned to golf and headed to Myrtle Beach and The Legends Group. His focus was not on a putter or driver, but on the greens and fairways and what made them flourish in varying degrees of weather. In 1998, a California based landscape company recruited Jason to work for their operation in Florida, and with but a thousand dollars in total savings and all that he owned in a little U-Haul trailer, headed south on 95 to Fort Lauderdale. He did not make this commitment until convincing Susan, his wife to be, to move down after she graduated college a few months after he made the move.
A few years later, Jason’s entrepreneurial spirit overcame the need for a regular paycheck and he ventured out on his own with a few base residential customers, and grew GreenSource from there. Jason’s work on golf courses ingrained a need for quality in his craft, and he brought that to his residential, commercial, municipality and community customers as a benchmark. He recruited his wife Susan to leave her current job to become his Chief Operating Officer due to her degree in Business Administration and experience in corporate environments. With Susan as his “ruler of the office,” Jason was able to concentrate on training his team, pitching the business, and maintaining a standard of excellence he prides himself on. Jason socializes with his employees regularly and takes a personal interest in their success and well-being. Professionalism is evident in his uniformed team, regularly replaced equipment and trucks, and in the quality of service from GreenSource. Business is good, as GreenSource has increased revenues substantially every year since its inception.
When not on the job, you might find Jason coaching his children or cheering them on at a volleyball match or soccer game. He has three children; Blake, Hannah, and Hayley. Besides his family, his lesser passion is fishing and a flat day will find him heading out the inlet. When asked what famous figure he would enjoy some one on one time with, Jason kept coming back to the word “wisdom” and thought some time with Abraham Lincoln or King Solomon would be enlightening.
